Colby volleyball third at McDaniel Tournament
WESTMINSTER, Md. The Colby College volleyball team went out of the region
and finished 3-1 and in third place at McDaniel College's Green Terrier
Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Mules improved to 23-2 overall with a win over Marymount (Va.) College
in the third-place match. Colby improved to 6-0 this season in five-game
matches with a 30-20, 25-30, 30-26, 27-30, 15-11 victory.
The Mules' lone loss came against Juniata (Pa.) College, the defending NCAA
Division III national champs and the current second-ranked team in the
country. Colby won 30-26 in the opening game, but then lost 30-25, 30-22,
30-23. No individual statistical information was available for Saturday's
matches.
On Friday, Colby took a tight 3-2 win over Moravian (30-13, 28-30, 31-29,
25-30, 15-11) and an easier 3-0 victory against Salisbury (30-27, 30-23,
30-26).
Jenny Lawrence, the NESCAC Player of the Week for last week, had 53
assists, 13 defensive digs and six service aces in the win against
Moravian. Kendall Kirby set a new school record for digs in a five-game
match with 42. Megan Devlin (18 kills, 17 digs, 4 aces), Kaitlin Adams (18
kills), Cait Cleaver (17 kills, 26 digs) and Meredith Lawler (career-high
12 kills, 3 blocks) also had fine matches for Colby.
Mariah Daly, Adams and Devlin all had 11 kills in the win against
Salisbury. Cleaver finished with eight kills and 20 digs, Kendall Kirby had
25 digs, and Lawrence finished with 35 assists, 16 digs and six aces.
