Colby fifth at Hall of Fame Volleyball Tournament
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. ---- The Colby College volleyball team battled back
again for a victory over Amherst College in a 3-2 win in the fifth-place
match at the Hall of Fame Tournament at Smith College on Saturday.
The Mules (27-3), ranked first in the New England Division III Region poll,
went 3-1 in the tourney. Colby took the 3-2 win (19-30, 30-17, 25-30,
30-23, 15-12) over Amherst and beat Wheaton College (30-24, 31-29, 30-21)
in matches Saturday. The Mules started the weekend Friday with a 3-0 win
against Mount Holyoke (30-18, 30-21, 30-19), but lost 3-1 to Wellesley
College (30-22, 30-27, 22-30, 30-18).
Colby beat Amherst for the second time this season after being down two
games to one.
Cait Cleaver had 20 kills and 21 digs in the victory over Amherst. Kaitlin
Adams added 15 kills and four aces, Megan Devlin had 13 kills and 22 digs,
Jenny Lawrence finished with 51 assists and 17 digs, Kendall Kirby had 28
digs and four aces, and Mariah Daly had 12 kills and three blocks.
Cleaver finished with 21 kills, 10 digs and three blocks in just three
games in the win against Wheaton. Lawrence had 36 assists and three aces,
Kirby added 17 digs and three aces, Devlin had 10 kills, and Adams added
seven kills.
Lawrence finished with 37 assists, nine digs and four aces in the win
against Mount Holyoke. Adams had 12 kills, Kirby had 17 digs, Cleaver had
nine kills in two games, Cassie Sancartier had five aces, and Devlin had
seven kills in two games.
Lawrence had 41 assists and 15 digs in the loss to Wellesley. Cleaver had
13 kills and four blocks, Devlin had 12 kills and 13 digs, Adams had 11
kills and four blocks, and Sancartier had 11 digs.
