Colby volleyball wins own invitational for third straight year
WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College volleyball team accomplished a
three-peat at Wadsworth Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Mules won the Colby Invitational for the third consecutive year by
going 4-0 in matches Friday and Saturday. Colby took a 3-0 (30-20, 30-12,
30-12) win against University of Southern Maine and added a 3-0 (30-11,
30-18, 30-16) victory over University of Maine at Farmington in play Saturday.
Colby has won 12 straight 3-0 matches in the tourney dating back to the
first tournament in 2002. Gordon College won the inaugural tourney and the
Mules have now won three straight.
Cait Cleaver (Kennett Square, Pa.), an all-tournament team selection for
Colby, had 12 kils in the win over Maine-Farmington. Kaitlin Adams (Athol,
Mass.) added 10 kills, Cassie Sancartier (Haverhill, Mass.) dished 31
assists and Jessie Prentice (New York, N.Y.) had nine digs.
Cleaver finished with nine kills and eight digs against Southern Maine.
Megan Devlin (Branford, Conn.) also had nine kills, while Meredith Lawler
(Lynnfield, Mass.) and Mariah Daly (Baltimore, Md.) both had six kills.
Genevieve Lawrence (Lafayette, Calif.) finished with 22 assists.
In other matches Saturday, Bowdoin College took a 3-2 victory over Gordon
College and the Polar Bears also defeated Maine-Machias by a 3-0 count.
Gordon took a 3-0 win over Maine-Farmington, while Southern Maine won 3-0
over Maine-Machias.
Bowdoin's Margo Linton (Atherton, Calif.), Maine-Farmington's Megan Dube
(Lewiston, Maine), Southern Maine's Katy Howlett (Mars Hill, Maine),
Gordon's Blakely Burns (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and Maine-Machias' Lily
Porteus (Grafton, N.Y.) also made the all-tournament team along with Cleaver.
