Colby volleyball defeats Tufts in league match
WATERVILLE, Maine --- First-year setter Genevieve Lawrence (Lafayette,
Calif.) had 29 assists, eight digs and four kills to power the unbeaten
Colby College volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Tufts University in a
New England Small College Athletic Conference match Friday night at
Wadsworth Gymnasium.
The Mules (6-0, 1-0 NESCAC) won by scores of 30-21, 30-25, 30-25. In the
other match at Colby, Amherst College took a 3-0 victory against Bowdoin
College by scores of 30-16, 30-23, 30-21.
Cait Cleaver (Kennett Square, Pa.) added 12 kills and four blocks for
Colby. Mariah Daly (Baltimore, Md.) and Kaitlin Adams (Athol, Mass.) both
had eight kills, while Julie Hike (Falmouth, Mass.) had a career-high seven
blocks. Megan Devlin (Branford, Conn.) had seven kills and 14 defensive digs.
Kelli Harrison (Blue Jay, Calif.) had 12 kills, 10 digs and three service
aces for Tufts (5-1, 0-1). Caitlin Dealy (Santa Barbara, Calif.) added 30
assists and Natalie Goldstein (Piedmont, Calif.) contributed 10 defensive
digs.
In the Amherst (5-1, 1-0) win, Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, Fla.) had
nine kills and Sara Heller (La Canada, Calif.) dished 24 assists and had
three blocks. Kate Raddock (Stamford, Conn.) had seven digs and three
service aces.
Bowdoin (4-2, 0-1) got eight kills from Ellie Simon (Falls Church, Va.), 15
digs and five kills from Julie Calareso (Coral Springs, Fla.) and 21
assists by Margo Linton (Atherton, Calif.).
Colby will play host to Amherst, while Tufts will go up against Bates
College on Saturday. Both matches start at noon.
