Colby volleyball at 7-0 after win over Amherst
WATERVILLE, Maine ----- Cait Cleaver (Kennett Square, Pa.) had 21 kills and Genevieve Lawrence (Lafayette, Calif.) finished with 53 assists as the Colby College volleyball team fought back for a 3-2 win against Amherst College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
In the other NESCAC match at Colby, Tufts University took a 3-0 win (30-16, 30-19, 30-21) against Bates College.
Colby (7-0, 2-0 NESCAC) battled back to take the final two games in pulling out the match. The Mules won by game scores of 30-22, 24-30, 23-30, 30-22, 15-3. Colby opened up leads of 7-1 and 11-2 on the way to the deciding game victory.
Megan Devlin (Branford, Conn.) added 12 kills and 26 digs for Colby. Kendall Kirby (Piedmont, Calif.) finished with 23 digs, Julie Hike (Falmouth, Mass.) had seven kills and five blocks, and Mariah Daly (Baltimore, Md.) had eight kills and two key blocks in the fifth game.
Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) both had 20 kills for Amherst (5-2, 1-1). Sara Heller (La Canada, Calif.) added 34 assists and seven digs, while Kristin Quinn (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) had nine kills.
Tufts (6-1, 1-1) received 13 kills and seven digs from Kelli Harrison (Blue Jay, Calif.) in the victory over Bates. Kaitlin O'Reilly (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) had 32 assists, Natalie Goldstein (Piedmont, Calif.) had 16 digs, and Caitlin Dealy (Santa Barbara, Calif) had seven kills and four service aces.
Jasmine McDavid led Bates (1-5, 0-1) with eight kills. Katie Graeff (Chevy Chase, Md.) had 16 assists and Lauren Gold (Sacramento, Calif.) added 11 digs.
