Colby volleyball opens season with two wins
WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College volleyball team opened the season with easy victories over Bowdoin College and Gordon College on the opening day of the Colby Invitational on Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
The Mules (2-0) took a 3-0 win (30-19, 30-16, 30-21) against Gordon and also took a 3-0 victory over Bowdoin (30-18, 30-12, 30-19). In other matches, Bowdoin took a 3-0 win (30-20, 30-18, 30-24) over University of Southern Maine, while University of Maine at Farmington coasted to a 3-0 victory (30-6, 30-7, 30-12) against Maine-Machias.
Cait Cleaver had 15 kills and 10 digs for Colby in the win against Gordon. The Mules, the two time defending champs in the tournament, also received 19 assists and three kills from first-year setter Genevieve Lawrence.
Cleaver and Kaitlin Adams both had 10 kills in the win against Bowdoin. Lawrence dished 27 assists and had four kills, while Kendall Kirby added 19 defensive digs.
Play continues in the six-team tournament Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
