MIT beats Bridgewater in NCAA volleyball at Colby
WATERVILLE, Maine ---- MIT setter Austin Zimmerman (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had
41 assists, 11 defensive digs and three kills in leading the Engineers to a
3-0 victory over Bridgewater State College in a NCAA Division III New
England Regional opening round match on Thursday at Colby College.
MIT (29-9), the fourth seed in the regional, won by scores of 30-19, 30-21,
30-27. Fifth-seeded Bridgewater State ends its season at 29-10. MIT was
playing the first of four opening round regional games and will find out
later tonight who the Engineers will play in the regional semifinals.
Briana Stephenson (Columbia, Md.) had 13 kills for MIT. Frances Rogoz
(Lincolnwood, Ill.) added 10 kills, eight digs and three service aces for
the winners. Caroline Jordan (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) had nine kills and
nine digs, Rose Zhong (Smithtown, N.Y.) added eight kills, and Arlis
Reynolds (Costa Mesa, Calif.) finished with 23 digs.
Bridgewater received 12 kills and 19 digs from Melissa Machado (Fairhaven,
Mass.), who became the first BSC player to record 1,000 kills and 1,000
digs in a career. She finished her career with 1,000 kills and 1,565 digs.
Kassie Moore (Pocasset, Mass.) had 22 assists and eight digs, while Shannon
Desmond (Quincy, Mass.) added 23 digs.
