Tufts takes NCAA volleyball win over Emmanuel
WATERVILLE, Maine ---- Tufts University took a 3-0 win over Emmanuel
College in an opening round NCAA Division III Tournament New England
Regional match at Colby College on Thursday night. However, the
second-seeded Jumbos had to earn the victory.
Tufts won by scores of 30-28, 30-28, 30-21 to improve to 28-6. Emmanuel,
the seventh seed, ended its season at 20-18. The Jumbos will play
sixth-seeded Colby-Sawyer in a regional semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Tufts played its fourth match at Colby in the past seven days. The Jumbos
played three matches in the New England Small College Athletic Conference
Championships last Friday to Sunday.
Katie Wysham (Spokane, Wash.) and Caitlin Dealy (Santa Barbara, Calif.)
both had 11 kills for Tufts. Kaitlin O'Reilly (Manhattan Beach, Calif.)
dished 37 assists, while Dana Fleisher (Aspen, Colo.) and Courtney Evans
(Bellaire, Texas) each had seven kills. Evans also finished with a
team-high six blocks.
Emmanuel led much of the way in the first game and stayed in the second
game with a late burst of points. Kendra Berry (Lakeville, Mass.) had eight
kills and 15 digs to lead the Saints. Lindsey Parker (New Bedford, Mass.)
also had eight kills, while Beth Ferreira (Somerset, Mass.) finished with
22 assists and 11 digs.
