Volleyball Cleaver named third team All-American, Adams honorable mention

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Cait Cleaver (Unionville/Kennett Square, Pa.) became the first Colby College volleyball player in program history to be named to one of the three teams for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Team.

Cleaver, who was selected to the third team, was one of just two players from the New England Region honored on the three 12-woman teams. Colby teammate Kaitlin Adams (Athol/Athol, Mass.) earned honorable mention All-America honors.

Adams became the third Colby player to earn All-America status in program history. Cleaver and Kimberly Prescott '03 earned honorable mention All-America honors after the 2003 season.

Cleaver and Adams just recently earned AVCA New England All-Region honors and both were on the New England Small College Athletic Conference first team. Cleaver also was named NESCAC Player of the Year.

Cleaver, a four-time NESCAC All-Conference selection, is the all-time leader at Colby in career kills (1,554) and defensive digs (1,635). She also has 265 career blocks and 197 service aces in four years.

Cleaver holds the single-season kills record at 539. She holds match records for kills in a four-game match (22) and digs in a five-game match (44). Cleaver is averaging a team-best 3.91 kills per game and is second on the Mules in total blocks (102), third in digs (542) and fourth in service aces (49).

Cleaver has her attack percentage up to a solid .300. She had 21 kills and 20 digs in just three games in Colby's 3-0 win against Tufts University in the New England Regional title game Saturday.

Adams led the NESCAC this season in hitting percentage (.385) and will end her career with single-season and career hitting percentage records at Colby. Adams has 879 career kills, 241 blocks and 160 aces.

Adams is first on Colby this season in blocks (133), second in kills (418) and third in service aces (59). Adams has more blocks this season than in her first three years combined.

Cleaver and Adams lead Colby (37-3) into an NCAA Division III quarterfinal match with defending national champion Juniata College on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in Salem, Virginia.
