Colby players Cleaver, Adams honored; Parent named Coach of the Year
WATERVILLE, Maine ---- Colby College volleyball players Cait Cleaver
(Unionville/Kennett Square, Pa.) and Kaitlin Adams (Athol/Athol, Mass.)
were both named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) New
England All-Region Team on Monday.
Meanwhile, Colby head coach Candice Parent was named the Tachikara/AVCA
Division III New England Region Coach of the Year.
Cleaver was recently named New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) Player of the Year. She has been named to the All-Region team
twice in her career at Colby. Cleaver, a four-time NESCAC All-Conference
selection, is the all-time leader at Colby in career kills (1,554) and
defensive digs (1,635). She also has 265 career blocks and 197 service aces
in four years.
Cleaver also holds the single-season kills record at 539 and counting for
this season. She holds match records for kills in a four-game match (22)
and digs in a five-game match (44). Cleaver is averaging a team-best 3.91
kills per game and is second on the Mules in total blocks (102), third in
digs (542) and fourth in service aces (49).
After a big weekend in the NCAA New England Regional at Colby, Cleaver has
her attack percentage up to a solid .300. She had 21 kills and 20 digs in
just three games in Colby's 3-0 win against Tufts University in the New
England Regional title game Saturday.
Adams made the AVCA All-Region Team for the first time and is only the
third Colby player in program history to make the squad. Cleaver made it
after her sophomore year in 2003 and Kimberly Prescott '03 was selected to
the team in the same year.
Adams, who was NESCAC first team all-conference, led the league this season
in hitting percentage (.385) and will end her career with single-season and
career hitting percentage records at Colby. Adams has 879 career kills, 241
blocks and 160 aces.
Adams is first on Colby this season in blocks (133), second in kills (418)
and third in service aces (59). Adams has more blocks this season than in
her first three years combined.
Parent earned regional coaching honors for the first time after leading the
Mules to a 37-3 record heading into the NCAA Division III Tournament
quarterfinal round this Thursday in Salem, Virginia. Parent earned NESCAC
Coach of the Year honors this season and in 2002.
Parent has a career record of 228-139 in her 11th season at Colby. She has
led the Mules to a 104-32 record over the last four seasons.
