Bates women's basketball downs Colby

LEWISTON, Maine — Meg Coffin scored 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting to lead the Bates College women's basketball team to a decisive 61-37 victory over Colby College in a NESCAC contest on Saturday. It was Bates’ sixth straight victory.

For the game, Bates led the turnover battle 27-17, and shot 47.5 percent from the floor to Colby's 33.3 percent.

Colby junior Tracy Nale (Waterville, Maine) was the lone Mule in double figures, with 13 points to go with three steals. First-year Lauren Duval (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added eight points and a team-high six rebounds.

Coffin (Westford, Mass.) added a game-high eight rebounds and four steals in just 17 minutes of action. Sophomore Matia Kostakis (Andover, Mass.) contributed 16 points and four steals, while sophomore Sarah Barton (Portsmouth, N.H.), who entered the weekend ranked fourth in Division III in assists per game (6.9), dished out 10 assists to push her average to 7.1 per game.

Colby (5-8, 0-2 NESCAC) will play at Gordon College in a non-league contest Wednesday at 6 p.m.
