Bates takes win over Colby in women's basketball

WATERVILLE, Maine ----- Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass.) had 18 of her game-high 26 points in the second half to lead the Bates College women's basketball team to a 62-52 non-conference victory over Colby College on Wednesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Coffin, who had a collegiate high with her point total, also finished with 10 rebounds, including seven offensive boards, and three steals. She shot 11-for-17 from the field in helping the Bobcats (7-5) battle back from a 33-30 halftime deficit.

Colby (4-6) shot 56 percent from the field (15-for-27) and had a 21-15 rebounding advantage in taking the halftime lead. Katie McCabe (Watertown, Conn.) had eight of her team-high 13 points in the opening half.

Coffin took control in the second half thanks in part to some high-low passing from teammate Matia Kostakis (Andover, Mass.), who finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Sarah Barton (Portsmouth, N.H.) also had five assists for Bates.

Lauren Duval (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting and had five rebounds for Colby. Tracy Nale (Waterville, Maine) added nine points and four rebounds for the Mules.
