Colby women's basketball wins own tourney

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Regina Wohl (Westbrook/Westbrook, Maine) scored all 17 of her points before halftime to help the Colby College women's basketball team to a 51-48 win over Husson College in the three-team Colby Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Mules won the tourney with a 2-0 record. Colby and Husson (1-1) each had beaten Newbury College in games Friday and Saturday.

Wohl was 6-for-8 from the field, including a 5-for-6 effort from 3-point range. She nailed her final 3-pointer of the half at the buzzer to give the Mules a 30-23 lead at the break.

Husson did battle back and took its only lead (39-38) of the second half on a lay-up by Chelsea Dow (Mount Desert/Trenton, Maine) with 8:16 remaining. The Mules, though, went on a 7-0 run over the next 3:30 to take the lead for good at 46-39.

Colby led 50-45 when Katie McCabe (Taft School/Watertown, Conn.) scored with 31 seconds left. The Eagles cut the lead to two points when Jenny Rollins (Central/Corinth, Maine) scored on a 3-point play with 15 seconds left. Laura Williamson (Kingswood-Oxford/Manchester, Conn.) hit 1-of-2 free throws with seven seconds left to make the score 51-48, but Husson was unable to get a shot off at the buzzer.

McCabe finished with eight points and seven rebounds for the Mules. Tracy Nale (Waterville/Waterville, Maine) added nine points and four rebounds, while Kate Emery (Westford Academy/Westford, Mass.) had five points and eight rebounds.

Rollins led Husson with 17 points and six rebounds. Carmen Ballard (Skowhegan/Skowhegan, Maine) finished with 13 points, while Stephanie Noyes (Lawrence/Fairfield, Maine) had eight points and six rebounds.
