Anning sparks women's hockey past Trinity
WATERVILLE, Maine ----- Laura Anning (Ingramport, Nova Scotia) had two goals and three assists as the Colby College women's hockey team took a 6-2 win over Trinity College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Alfond Rink.
Second-year head coach David Venditti has already helped the Mules (7-4, 4-3 NESCAC) equal last year's win total. Colby improved by three wins from the previous year in Venditti's first year as the Mules went 7-11-3.
Anning, a first-year player, leads the Mules with nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points. Amanda Comeau (Southbury, Conn.) and Rebecca Julian (South Windsor, Conn.) both had two goals and one assist for the winners.
The Mules got three goals from Comeau, Julian and Anning in the final 10:01 of play in the first period to take a 3-0 lead at the break.
Trinity (6-4-1, 3-4-1) scored with just five seconds left in the second period on a goal by Michelle Chee (San Francisco, Calif.) for the only score of the middle period.
Julian scored 6:59 into the third period to give Colby a 4-1 lead, but Trinity cut the lead to two once again when Marissa Powers (Quincy, Mass.) tallied at 8:51. The Mules closed out the scoring at 13:22 from Anning and at 16:19 from Comeau.
Genevieve Triganne (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) stopped 21 shots for Colby.
