Williams women's hockey holds off Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine ----- Rachel Barr (Hanover, Conn.) scored twice in the opening period in lifting the Williams College women's hockey team to a 4-2 win against Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Alfond Rink.

Barr scored at 5:39 to give Williams (7-8-1, 6-4-1 NESCAC) a 1-0 lead. The Mules tied the game at 1-1 when Heather Nickerson (Falmouth, Mass.) tallied at 16:40. Williams went ahead for good when Barr scored unassisted at 18:45 for a 2-1 lead after the first intermission.

The Ephs went up 3-1 when Elspeth MacMillan (Milton, Mass.) had the lone goal of the second period at 13:52.

Colby (9-6, 6-5) cut the margin to 3-2 when Laura Anning (Ingramport, Nova Scotia) scored at 11:42. Williams, though, scored just 24 seconds later on a goal by Catherine Mullen (Farmington, Conn.).

Denise McCulloch (Toronto, Ontario) stopped 15 shots for Williams, while Genevieve Triganne (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) made 27 saves for the Mules.
