BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team played
another one-goal game on Saturday afternoon, but this time came out on
top, defeating Colby 3-2. The victory snapped a string of three straight
one-goal losses and improved the Polar Bears to 3-3 on the season. The
Polar Bears are ranked ninth in the latest national poll, while Colby
drops to 3-2 this season.
Bowdoin took the lead late in the opening period when Meghan Gillis took a
feed from Sam Stewart on a breakaway and backhanded it into the net for a
1-0 Polar Bear lead at 17:20. The Polar Bears were hampered with a handful
of penalties to open the second frame and Colby finally took advantage, as
Laura Clemson took a nice feed from Colette Finley to tie the game at
11:46 of the period.
Bowdoin regained the lead late in the stanza on a powerplay goal at 18:26.
Kristen Cameron passed the puck to Lydia Hawkins on the wing for a
one-timer that slipped inside the post for a 2-1 Polar Bear lead.
A turnover in the neutral zone led to a game-tying goal early in the third
period. Laura Goethels collected the puck at the Bowdoin blue-line and
skated in alone on Cat MacEachern. Goethels backhanded the puck to the top
of the net to deadlock the game at 1:23 of the frame. Kristen Cameron put
Bowdoin on top for good with a powerplay goal at 5:09 on a blazing
slapshot to the top-left corner.
MacEachern made 24 saves in net for Bowdoin, while Genevieve Triganne
stopped 35 shots in goal for the Mules.
