Colby women's hockey falls at tourney
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – In the evening contest, juniors Jill Nolan (Labrador, Newfoundland/Clarkson University) and Courtney Bills (Penfield, N.Y./Clarkson University) each collected a pair of goals for Utica, while classmate Stephanie Yates (Garden Grove, Calif./California Selects) turned away 23 shots en route to a 5-1 victory.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first period, and doubled their lead to four midway through the third period before Colby got on the board thanks to Laura Anning’s (Ingramport, Nova Scotia/Westminster School) team leading sixth goal. Sophomore Genevieve Triganne (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/Westminster School) stopped 16 shots in net for the Mules.
Saint Michael's and Colby (3-3) will match-up in the consolation game of the tournament at 1 p.m. followed by the championship between Neumann and Utica which is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Neumann College (4-4-1, 2-2 ECAC West) earned a 4-0 victory over Saint Michael's College (3-6, 2-5 ECAC East) in the other opening round game of the Windjammer Saint Michael’s Tournament at Cairns Arena.
