Colby stops Wesleyan, clinches home playoff game
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --- The Colby College women's hockey team clinched a home playoff game for the quarterfinal round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-2 victory over Wesleyan University on Friday night.
The Mules (13-7-1, 8-6-1 NESCAC) will play at Alfond Rink next Saturday at 1 p.m. in a quarterfinal game. Pairings for the NESCAC tourney will be announced after the completion of Saturday's games. Colby plays one more game with Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Mules trailed 2-0 in the first period, but roared back with four straight goals. Laura Anning tallied at 16:04 of the first period to cut Wesleyan's lead to 2-1 at the break.
Nicole Crocker tied the game at 2-2 after two periods with a goal at 6:47 of the period.
Rebecca Julian got the game-winning tally at 2:31 of the third period and Anning added an insurance goal at 8:17. Amanda Comeau had two assists for the Mules.
Genevieve Triganne stopped 27 shots for the Colby win.
