Women's hockey blanks Wesleyan, ready for NESCAC playoffs
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --- The Colby College women's hockey team ended the regular season at 14-7-1 after coasting to a 4-0 victory over Wesleyan University in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.
The Mules will be the fourth seed in the NESCAC playoffs and will host fifth-seeded Amherst College in a quarterfinal game at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Alfond Rink.
Genevieve Triganne made six saves in the first period and Lacey Brown stopped 19 shots in the final two periods in combining for the Colby shutout.
Laura Anning scored her 20th goal of the season just 2:38 into the game to give the Mules a 1-0 lead after the opening period. Rebecca Julian notched her 11th assist of the season on the goal.
Laura Clemson made it 2-0 after two periods when she scored at 6:15 off assists from Nicole Crocker and Colette Finley.
Colby captain Caitlin Leahy scored on the power play off an assist from Lauren Goethals at 14:38 of the third period to put the Mules up by three goals. Lindsay Barada tallied unassisted with just one second left in the game for the final goal.
