Colby women's hockey holds off Trinity, 2-1

HARTFORD, Conn. --- Sophomore defensemen Victoria Work (Aspen, Co.) scored what proved to be the game winner in the first period as Colby College defeated the Trinity Bantams with a score of 2-1 on Friday's women's ice hockey action at the Kingswood-Oxford rink.

The Mules improve their record to 10-6 overall and 7-5 in NESCAC play, as the Bantams drop to 6-9-2 overall and 3-8-2 in NESCAC play.

The Mules got off to an early lead less than four minutes into play with a power play goal from Colette Finley (St. Paul, Minn.) on an assist from Heather Nickerson (Falmouth, Mass.). Work put the game winning goal on the scoreboard just a few minutes later with assists from Rebecca Julian (South Windsor, Conn.) and Nickerson.

Trinity's senior goalie Courtney Berg (Pennington, N.J.) kept the game close for the Bantams with 38 saves. Late in the third period first-year Michelle Chee (San Francisco, Calif.) made the game even closer, scoring an unassisted goal.

However that did not prove to be enough for the Bantams as Colby's sophomore goalie Genevieve Triganne (Point-Claire, QBC) also had a strong performance in goal with 31 stops including some close opportunities late in the third period.
