Third-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse tops 11th-ranked Colby
WATERVILLE, Maine ---- Despite seven points from junior attacker Allie
Libby (Needham, Mass.), the 11th-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team
fell 18-11 to third-ranked Middlebury College in a New England Small
College Athletic Conference season-opening game for both teams Saturday at
Bill Alfond Field.
Schuyler Winstead (Chevy Chase, Md.) had two goals and three assists for
Middlebury.
The Panthers (1-0) scored the final three goals of the first half to break
a 5-5 tie and take an 8-5 lead into halftime. Junior attacker Liza Humes
(Littleton, Colo.) scored back-to-back goals in a span of 30 seconds to put
the Panthers up 7-5. Elizabeth Renehan (St. Davids, Pa.) tallied with 12.8
seconds left in the half for an 8-5 lead.
Middlebury outscored the Mules by a 5-1 margin in the opening 10:36 of the
second half to pull away.
Libby (Needham, Mass.) had one goal and six assists to lead all scorers
with seven points. Carrie Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn.) finished with two
goals and one assist, while Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.), Lauren Barrett
(Fairfield, Conn.) and Elizabeth Ghilardi (Norwell, Mass.) all had two goals.
The Mules (0-1) will play host to ninth-ranked Williams College
next Saturday at noon.
