Ninth-ranked Colby women's lacrosse defeats 13th-ranked Colorado College
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. --- Kate Sheridan had five goals and one assist and the ninth-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team was 6-for-10 in free-position attempts in taking an 18-11 win over 13th-ranked Colorado College in non-conference play Wednesday night.
Sheridan, a first-year midfielder, has 15 goals and one assist for 16 points in Colby's 3-1 start to the season. Lauren Barrett added three goals and one assist and now has 48 career goals just four games into her sophomore season for the Mules.
The Mules led 7-1 at one point in the first half and took a 10-5 lead into halftime. Colorado College (6-3) got as close as 11-7 with 19:58 remaining in the game, but the Mules scored the next four goals to pull away.
Allie LIbby finished with one goal and three assists and leads the Mules in scoring with six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. Elizabeth Ghilardi and Libba Cox both had two goals, while Colby also received goals from Carrie Lovejoy, Kelsey Neville, Lauren Strazzula, Courtney Drake and Becky Julian.
Catharine O'Brien stopped nine shots in goal for Colby, which plays at Connecticut College on Saturday at noon in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Liz Morbeck helped out defensively with five ground balls and added three draw controls.
