Colby women's lacrosse rips Camels, wins fourth straight

NEW LONDON, Conn. --- Heather Nickerson and Elizabeth Ghilardi netted three goals apiece, propelling Colby College to a 17-7 victory over Connecticut College in NESCAC women's lacrosse action played on Harkness Green on Saturday.

Allie Libby chipped in with two goals and an assist for the Mules (4-1, 2-1 NESCAC), who earned their fourth straight victory. Libba Cox and Carrie Lovejoy both had two goals for the Mules, while Courtney Drake, Becky Julian, Cary Finnegan and Kate Sheridan all had one goal and one assist.

The Mules scored seven times in the opening 12:03 in building a 7-1 advantage over the Camels (2-5, 0-3). Nickerson capped the run with consecutive unassisted tallies for the visitors. With just 53 seconds remaining, the Camels' Lindsey Coit (South Portland, Maine) tucked one inside the left post to make it a 9-4 game. However, Libby answered the goal with just 14 seconds remaining, and the visitors carried a 10-4 lead into the break.

In the second half, Colby continued to apply offensive pressure with six of the first seven goals. Catharine O'Brien (Reading, Vt.) had 15 saves to pace Colby.

The Mules play host to Wellesley College at 1 p.m. Sunday.
