Nine wins in a row for Colby women's lacrosse
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College junior attacker Allie Libby (Needham, Mass.) had six goals and three assists to lift the seventh-ranked Mules to a 24-15 win over Plymouth State University in non-conference women's lacrosse Tuesday at Bill Alfond Field.
Colby is 9-1 and has won nine straight games heading into Saturday's 11 a.m. home game with Wesleyan University. Plymouth State fell to 5-5 overall.
Libby reached 50 points for the season and leads Colby in scoring with 20 goals and 30 assists. She also contributed seven draw controls and two caused turnovers.
First-year midfielder Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.) had three goals and two assists, while Lauren Strazzula (Norwell, Mass.) had four goals and Courtney Drake (Falmouth, Maine) had four assists. Becky Julian (South Windsor, Conn.) had three goals and Elizabeth Ghilardi (Norwell, Mass.), Cary Finnegan (West Hartford, Conn.) and Carrie Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn.) all had two goals.
Plymouth State led 5-3 with 14:54 left in the first half, but the Mules battled back to take a 12-8 lead at the break. After trading goals in the first nine minutes of the second half, Colby went on a 7-2 scoring run over the next 10 minutes to pull away.
Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) led the Panthers with six goals and two assists. Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) finished with three goals and one assist, Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) and Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) both had two goals and one assist, and Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) had three assists.
