Women's lacrosse wins 10th straight to tie team record
WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College women's lacrosse team tied a team record for consecutive wins after taking a 14-4 victory over Wesleyan University in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
The seventh-ranked Mules won for the 10th straight time and tied the 2003 team for most consecutive victories in a season. Colby is 10-1 overall and stands in second place at 5-1 in the NESCAC. Wesleyan fell to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Elizabeth Ghilardi (Norwell, Mass.) had two goals and three assists to lead Colby, which led 8-2 at halftime. Allie Libby (Needham, Mass.) finished with one goal and three assists, while Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.) and Kelsey Neville (Duxbury, Mass.) both had three goals. Libba Cox (Guilford, Conn.) and Lauren Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) each had two goals and teammate Carrie Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn.) scored once.
Amanda Belichick (Weston, Mass.) had one goal and one assist for Wesleyan (8-4, 2-3 NESCAC). Sarah Orkin (West Hartford, Conn.), Becky Meredith (Cockeysville, Md.) and Schuyler Swenson (Englewood, Colo.) also tallied for the Cardinals.
Catharine O'Brien (Reading, Vt.) made four saves in goal for Colby and Wesleyan keeper Kate Jones (Duxbury, Mass.) had 11 saves.
