Seventh-ranked Colby women's lacrosse wins 11th straight
WATERVILLE, Maine ---- The 2006 version of the Colby College women's lacrosse team will not have to share the team record for consecutive wins with the 2003 squad.
The seventh-ranked Mules made sure of that Wednesday night with a 13-11 win over ninth-ranked Bowdoin College at Bill Alfond Field. Colby has won 11 straight games and breaks the tie the team had with the 2003 squad that had won 10 straight.
Allie Libby (Needham, Mass.) had two goals and four assists to pace Colby (11-1, 6-1 NESCAC). Libby leads the conference in scoring with 23 goals and 39 assists for 62 points.
Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.) added three goals, two assists, seven draw controls and four ground balls. Carrie Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn.), Libba Cox (Guilford, Conn.) and Heather Nickerson (Falmouth, Mass.) all had two goals for the Mules.
Colby opened up a 5-1 lead at one point, but settled for a 6-4 lead at halftime. The teams were tied 6-6 and 7-7 early in the second half, but Sheridan put the Mules ahead for good with goals with 18:54 and 17:49 left in the game. After Bowdoin cut the margin to 10-9 with nine minutes remaining, Sheridan won the draw control and scored just 15 seconds later to put the Mules back up by two goals.
Kate Donoghue (Plandome, N.Y.) had four goals and one assist for Bowdoin (9-3, 3-3). Taylor White (Wellesley, Mass.) and Bobbi Dennison (Freeport, Maine) each had two goals and one assist.
