Colby women's lacrosse wins fifth straight game

WATERVILLE, Maine ---- After traveling thousands of miles and playing four games in three states, the Colby College women's lacrosse team returned home with a 19-4 non-conference victory over Wellesley College on Sunday at Bill Alfond Field.

The ninth-ranked Mules were playing their fourth game in seven days, with the first two in Colorado on Monday and Wednesday. The team traveled next to Connecticut College for a game Saturday and finally got back to Maine late Saturday night for the game against Wellesley.

Colby is 5-1 overall, winners of five straight games and were 4-0 for the week. The Mules averaged 19 goals per game in victories over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Colorado College, Connecticut College and Wellesley.

Allie Libby (Needham, Mass.) had two goals and five assists for seven points. Libby leads the Mules with 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in six games.

Elizabeth Ghilardi (Norwell, Mass.) had four goals and one assist for Colby. Courtney Drake (Falmouth, Maine), Carrie Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn.), Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.), Lauren Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) and Cary Finnegan (West Hartford, Conn.) all had two goals. Heather Nickerson (Falmouth, Mass.) and Becky Julian (South Windsor, Conn.) both had one goal and one assist.

Colby scored nine goals in the first 15 minutes of play and led 16-1 at halftime.

Maxine Brownstein (Roseland, N.J.) and Katie Moseley (Denver, Colo.) both had two goals for Wellesley (4-6). Kristin Jaronczyk (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Allison Bland (Virginia Beach, Va.) combined for 20 saves in goal.
