Colby women's lacrosse rips Bates, wins sixth straight
LEWISTON, Maine --- The Colby College women's lacrosse team won for the sixth straight time in taking a 21-10 victory over Bates College on Wednesday.
The Mules (6-1, 3-1 NESCAC), ranked eighth in the latest national poll, pulled away from a 7-7 tie late in the first half to defeat their CBB rival. Colby has average 19.4 goals per game in its last five contests, including two NESCAC wins and a victory over a then top 15 opponent.
First-years Becky Julian (South Windsor, Conn.) and Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.) each scored four times and assisted once to lead the Mules' scoring. Senior Elizabeth Ghilardi (Norwell, Mass.) added three goals and an assist, and sophomore Lauren Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) also had three goals. Sophomore Carrie Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn.) scored twice with one assist, and junior Allie Libby (Needham, Mass.) added a goal with two assists.
Colby junior goalkeeper Catharine O'Brien (Reading, Vt.) had a big day in net, with 22 saves and 10 goals allowed.
The Mules play at Tufts University on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
