Colby women's lacrosse wins seventh in a row
MEDFORD, Mass. --- The eighth-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team used good scoring balance with six players scoring two goals in taking a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over Tufts University in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.
The Mules (7-1, 4-1 NESCAC) have won seven straight games heading into Sunday's 1 p.m. non-conference game with Keene State at Colby's Bill Alfond Field.
Tufts, which lost for the first time in dropping to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the league, held a 7-4 lead at halftime on the Mules.
Allie Libby had two goals and four assists to lead the Mules. She leads Colby in scoring with 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points. Kelsey Neville, Elizabeth Ghilardi and Becky Julian all had two goals and one assist for the winners. Libba Cox and Kate Sheridan both had two goals, while Lauren Barrett added one goal.
Colby battled back and went ahead at 8-7 and eventually took an 11-8 lead with 21 minutes to go in the game. Tufts scored its final goal with 4:26 remaining to make it 13-12, but O'Brien made a fine point-blank stop with 35 seconds left to keep the Jumbos from tying the game.
Colby goalie Catharine O'Brien made 11 saves in the first half to keep the Mules in the game and finished with 18 stops. She has 40 saves in the past two games.
