Colby women's lacrosse falls in NCAA Regional Semifinal
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. The Colby College women's lacrosse team ended its season at 14-4 after falling 11-8 to Bowdoin College in an NCAA Division III Tournament Regional Semifinal on Saturday at Middlebury College.
Colby led 2-1 early in the game, but Bowdoin went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-2 margin with 16:02 remaining in the first half. The Mules' Kate Sheridan tied the game at 5-5 with 1:17 left on an unassisted goal, but Bowdoin's Kate Donoghue tallied with six seconds remaining to the break for a 6-5 lead at intermission.
Kelsey Neville scored from Sheridan with 23:48 remaining in the game to make it a 6-6 game. The Polar Bears, though, went on a 5-0 run to take control of the game. The Mules got their next goal with 7:06 left from Libba Cox and got another score from Cary Finnegan with 6:47 remaining, but neither managed a goal the rest of the way.
Sheridan had two goals and one assist to lead Colby. She finished with 46 goals and 13 assists for 59 points in her first year with the Mules. Meanwhile, Catharine O'Brien stopped 11 shots for Colby in net.
Bowdoin will play Middlebury in a Regional Final at 1 p.m. Sunday for the right to go to the NCAA Final Four. The Panthers beat the Polar Bears in a Regional Final last year.
