Women's lacrosse coach Godomsky, two players earn honors
WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College women's lacrosse team kept the accolades coming in as head coach Heidi Godomsky earned Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Regional Coach of the Year honors.
Meanwhile, Colby junior attacker Allie Libby (Needham, Mass.) was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) first team. Junior goaltender Catharine O'Brien (Reading, Vt.) made the second team.
Godomsky was one of seven coaches around the country to earn IWLCA Regional Coach of the Year honors. The New England Region was broken down into two areas because of the large amount of colleges that play women's lacrosse. Godomsky had previously been named New England Small College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
Colby won a program-best 14 games this year and made the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time. The Mules (14-4) led the NESCAC in goals per game (16.00) and set team records for points (421), goals (289) and assists (132) in a season. Colby had three players earn All-America honors for the first time in team history.
Godomsky, in her 13th season at Colby, owns a 124-77 career record to make her the all-time leader in career victories and winning percentage for the Mules. Colby will return a number of key players for the 2007 season.
Libby's ECAC honor came after earlier being named an IWLCA first team All-American. Libby also has been named to the Regional All-America and NESCAC first team.
Libby led the NESCAC in scoring with 35 goals and 53 assists for 88 points. She set single-season records for points in a season and assists in a season. Libby, a junior, heads into her final season at Colby with 67 goals and 63 assists for 130 points.
O'Brien finished the season with a 13-4 record and led the NESCAC in save percentage (.530). She also was third in the conference in saves per game (11.06) and fourth in goals against average (9.92). O'Brien also third team All-America honors and was on the first team for the region and NESCAC.
O'Brien has 520 saves and a 31-18 record heading into her senior season next year.
