Williamson goal lifts Colby women's soccer past St. Joseph's
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Laura Williamson (Kingswood Oxford/Manchester, Conn.)
scored with just 1:11 left in the game to lift the Colby College women's
soccer team to a 1-0 victory over St. Joseph's College in non-conference
play Wednesday.
The Mules, who are 3-0 at home this season, improved to 5-2-2 overall. St.
Joseph's fell to 7-5.
Katie McCabe (Taft School/Watertown, Conn.) picked up her team-best fifth
assist of the season on Williamson's goal. McCabe's long ball skipped past
a St. Joseph's defender and Williamson ripped a low, hard shot that
deflected off the goalkeeper and into the net. Williamson leads the Mules
with seven goals and three assists for 17 points and has 31 career goals in
her third season.
Colby's defense has now allowed just eight goals in nine games. Goalkeeper
Liza Benson (Lawrence Academy/Orchid, Fla.) made five saves for her fourth
shutout of the season.
Krista Wotherspoon (Edward Little/New Gloucester, Maine) made 12 stops for
the Monks.
Colby plays host to Amherst College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The Monks return
to action at Lasell College at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
