Morbeck, Williamson lead women's soccer to win

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Junior midfielder Liz Morbeck (Seattle, Wash.) netted her second goal of the day with 3:46 left in the second overtime, propelling Colby College (7-2-3, 3-2-3) to a 3-2 victory over Connecticut College (3-7-1, 1-6) in NESCAC women's soccer action played on Harkness Green Saturday.

Colby clinched a NESCAC playoff position with the victory.

Laura Williamson (Manchester, Conn.) chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Mules, who extended their unbeaten streak to four games.

Connecticut College sophomores Claire Linden (Bethesda, Md.) and Analisse Rios (La Paz, Bolivia) netted first half goals for the hosts.

The Camels took a 1-0 lead at the eight minute mark. Senior back Margaret Bacon (Sutton, Mass.) served up a corner for Claire Linden who buried the header for her first collegiate score. Leading 1-0 at the half, the Camels built a two goal advantage on the Mules in the 57th minute. Analisse Rios netted her fourth score of the season with Maggie Driscoll assisting on the tally.

But Colby evened the game with a pair of scores tallied just two minutes apart in the latter stages of the second half. Laura Williamson netted the equalizer with 23 minutes remaining, putting back a rebound off a Meggie Herlihy (Simsbury, Conn.) shot. ÊWith 2:44 to go, Williamson delivered a blast that was headed toward the upper right corner of the net, but Camel keeper Kate Simmons (Altamont, N.Y.) made a leaping save to preserve the tie in regulation.

In the second overtime, Laura Williamson gained control of the ball 10 yards in front of the net. She was able to deliver the pass to Morbeck who was waiting at the right post side of the net for the game-winner. Kate Simmons finished with 10 saves for the Camels. Liza Benson (Orchid, Pa.) made seven stops for the Mules.
