Colby women's soccer opens season with win over Tufts
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Laura Williamson (Kingswood-Oxford/Manchester, Conn.)
scored her 25th collegiate goal and added an assist to lead the Colby
College women's soccer team to a 2-0 season-opening victory over Tufts
University in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.
Williamson, who is just a junior, now has 25 goals and nine assists for 59
career points and moved into a tie for fourth place on Colby's all-time
scoring list. Williamson also moved into third place on the goal scoring
list behind Christine O'Donnell '03 (43 goals) and Kim Waldron '99 (29 goals).
Williamson scored off a header from a pass from Katie McCabe (Taft
School/Watertown, Conn.) at the 19:46 of the first half.
Liz Morbeck (Lakeside School/Seattle, Wash.) got the other goal with just
under eight minutes remaining off an assist from Williamson.
Liza Benson (Lawrence Academy/Orchid, Fla.) stopped 11 shots for the Colby
(1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) shutout. Annie Ross (Newton South/Newton, Mass.) made six
saves for Tufts (0-1, 0-1).
