Williamson leads women's soccer past UMF
FARMINGTON, Maine --- Laura Williamson scored her second goal of the game with just 2:29 remaining in the contest to lift the Colby College women's soccer team to a 3-1 win against University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday.
Williamson, a junior, moved into third place on Colby's all-time scoring list after her second big game in a row. She had one goal and one assist in a 2-0 season-opening win against Tufts University. Williamson has 27 goals and nine assists for 63 career points in moving past Shannon Tracy '97 (61 points) for third place.
Maine-Farmington went up 1-0 on a penalty kick by Olivia Irons at 18:46 of the first half. However, Williamson tied the game at 1-1 just 54 seconds later to make it 1-1 at intermission.
After Williamson's second goal, Libba Cox added an insurance goal with 48 seconds remaining.
Liza Benson made one save in goal for Colby, while Melissa Demerchant stopped nine shots for UMF.
