Bowdoin women's soccer holds off Mules
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team got two goals from Katherine Whitley, and held off a late Colby charge to win their 27th straight contest against the Mules.
Whitley gave Bowdoin (3-0) a lift shortly before halftime with her first goal of the season, heading a pass from Ann Zeigler into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at 38:44. Kelsey Wilcox doubled the Polar Bear lead just 1:25 after intermission, blasting a shot from outside the box to the top right corner for a 2-0 lead. Whitley made it 3-0 on a nifty give-and-go with Zeigler at 53:22, using her left foot to give the Polar Bears a 3-0 advantage.
Colby (2-1) rallied when leading scorer Laura Williamson tallied her fourth goal of the season at 70:01 and cut into the lead even further at 84:59 when Kara McCabe put home a deflection in front of the Bowdoin goal to make it 3-2. But the Polar Bears withstood the rally to stay unbeaten on the season.
Liza Benson made eight saves for the Mules, while Anna Shapell stopped nine shots for the Polar Bears.
