Colby women's soccer blanks U. New England
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Lauren Goethals '08 (Needham, Mass.) had one goal and assisted on the other as the Colby College Mules shut out the Universitiy of New England Nor'easters 2-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match Tuesday night.
The win improved Colby's record to 4-1, and the Nor'easters lost for the fourth consecutive outing to fall to 2-5.
The Mules scored once in each half. Meggie Herlihy '08 (Simsbury, Conn.) took a pass from Goethals and lobbed a high shot over UNE's goalkeeper to open the scoring at the 36:07 mark. The other goal came at 76:33 when Goethals tucked home a shot from close range. Laura Pomponi '08 (Beverly, Mass.) was credited with an assist on the play.
Liza Benson '07 (Orchid, Fla.) needed two saves to record the shutout for the Mules, who travel to NESCAC rival Middlebury College on Saturday.
For UNE, which hosts Roger Williams University that same day, Mallory Wilson '08 (Gray, Maine) stopped a career-high 10 shots.
