Minty wins New England Division III title in 800 meters
MEDFORD, Mass. ---- Colby College senior Jess Minty won the 800-meter run at the New England Division III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Tufts University.
Minty, an All-American last year in the 800 meters, had a time of 2:13.36 to win the title. Katy O'Brien of Tufts was second in 2:14.61 and Katie Howard of Williams took third with a 2:15.94.
Minty helped the Colby women finish in 10th place out of 22 teams with 38.33 points.
Liz Turner was second in the 5,000 meters for the Mules with a time of 17:58.32. Amherst's Nicole Anderson won the race in 17:54.14.
Elizabeth Petit was fourth in the 1,000 meters in 3:01.11, while Erin Beasley took sixth in the 200 dash with a 27.18 and Anna King was sixth in the mile run (5:05.17). Karen Prisby finished seventh in the 3,000 meters in 10:16.27 and Emilie Coulson was eighth in the high jump (4-11.75).
On the men's side at MIT, Jason Foster took third place in the weight throw with a toss of 56-9. Dan Vassallo was seventh in the 3,000 meters in 8:49.59 and Menya Hinga took eighth with a 51.67 in the 400 meters.
