Prisby, Vassallo win races for Colby cross country teams

(Colby women beat Bowdoin, while Polar Bears defeat Mules in men's race)

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Karen Prisby (Agawam, Mass.) won the women's race and Dan Vassallo (Wilmington, Mass.) took the men's race for the Mules in dual cross country meets with Bowdoin College on Saturday.

The Colby women took the top five places to record a 15-48 win over the Polar Bears. The Bowdoin men took places three to six in taking a 26-31 victory over the Mules.

Prisby, an All-American last year, had a winning time of 19 minutes, 39 seconds over the five-kilometer course in the women's race. Anna King (Greenland, N.H.) was second in 19:48, first-year runner Amanda Ivey (Oxford, Maine) was third with a 20:06, Kathleen Maynard (Jackson, N.H.) had a 20:14 for fourth and Liz Petit (Grosse Point, Mich.) took fifth in 20:20. Laura Onderko (Glastonbury, Conn.) was sixth for Bowdoin in 20:24.

Vassallo was dominant in the men's race with a time of 26:37 over five miles. Colby teammate John Swain (Saint Paul, Minn.) took second in 27:07.

Owen McKenna (Amston, Conn.) placed third for Bowdoin with a 27:12 and Nathan Krah (Bradenton, Fla.) took fourth at 27:20.
