Colby men's soccer earns 1-1 tie at Tufts to start season
SOMERVILLE, Mass. --- Todd Boertzel scored just 4:33 into the contest as the Colby College men's soccer team earned a 1-1 overtime tie with Tufts University in a New England Small College Athletic Conference season opener Saturday.
After a rush down the field resulted in a corner, Boertzel's kick tailed around Jumbo defenders and landed over the goal line to put the Mules up in a hurry.
Colby took that 1-0 lead into halftime, but Tufts tied the game in the 61st minute when Dan Jozwiak tallied off a pass from Bear Duker.
Colby senior co-captain Josh Kahane recorded eight stops, including five in the second half when Tufts put 11 shots toward the net. The Jumbos finished with a 20-15 advantage in shots. Pat Tonelli had six saves in his collegiate debut for Tufts.
The Mules will play a non-conference game at Husson College at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
