Colby, Bowdoin women's soccer battle to 1-1 tie

WATERVILLE, Maine ---- Laura Williamson (Manchester, Conn.) scored for Colby College and Dana Riker (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) tallied for Bowdoin College as the two teams battled to a 1-1 overtime tie in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's soccer play Saturday.

Colby and Bowdoin both improved to 1-0-2 this season. The Mules are now 0-0-2 in the league, while Bowdoin was playing its first NESCAC game.

Shots were even at 25-25 and Bowdon had a slight 7-6 edge in corner kicks. Colby goalkeeper Liza Benson (Orchid, Fla.) was credited with 16 saves and Polar Bear goalie Katherine Popoff (Taipei, Taiwan) stopped 10 shots.

Riker scored unassisted just 5:43 into the first half, but Williamson made it a 1-1 tie at intermission with an unassisted goal with 10:47 left.

Colby had a 9-4 advantage in shots during the overtime play, including two shots from Williamson that went off the crossbar.
