Dunn makes quarterfinal round at New England Regional meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --- Colby College women's tennis player Allison Dunn made it to the singles quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Division III Regional at MIT on Sunday.

Dunn won 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-5 (pro set) over Grace Baljon of Williams College in a third round match to advance to the quarterfinals. She then fell 6-4, 6-2 to Cary Gibson of Williams. Gibson eventually made it to the title match before losing to champion Amy Roche of Middlebury College.

Dunn also teamed up with Tracy Nale to make the consolation bracket semifinals in doubles. The Colby pair defeated (no score available) Smith College's Kate Johnson and Catherine Lydecker in a quarterfinal match, but then lost a tough 9-8 (4) match in the semifinals to Wellesley's Jen Schwarzkopf and Meghan Stubblebine.

Nale lost her second match in the singles consolation bracket, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Cecilia Grissa of Bates College.

Dunn advanced to the third round of play at the meet on Friday. Dunn, the fifth seed in singles, took a 6-0, 6-0 win over Smith College's Seiko Fujii in the opening round. She then rolled to another win by defeating Ana Katz of Brandeis University by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Dunn will play Grace Baljon of Williams College in a third round match Saturday.

Nale lost 6-3, 6-0 in her first round match to Annie Hancock of Williams College. Nale then took a 6-3, 6-3 win against Wellesley's Meghan Stubblebine in an opening round consolation bracket match.

In doubles play, Dunn and Nale fell 8-2 to Middlebury College's Clare Burke and Liz Emery in an opening round match. The Colby pair then moved to consolation bracket matches and recorded an 8-0 win against Springfield College's Meghan Kelly and Melissa Weinstein in the opening round.
