With five All-America performances and five skiers making the NCAA Division I Championships, the Colby College alpine ski teams celebrated the best season in school history.

First-year skiers Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley School/North Conway, N.H.) and Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley School/North Conway, N.H.) each earned first team All-America honors in the slalom at the NCAA Championships. The twin sisters also both got second team All-America honors in the giant slalom.

Jenny Lathrop was the top American woman finisher in the slalom at the NCAA meet when she finished in second place. She also took 10th place in the giant slalom at the meet. Meanwhile, Abbi Lathrop was fifth in the slalom and eighth in the giant slalom to secure her All-America honors.

Jenny Lathrop was the top-rated slalom skier on the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) circuit. She won five of six slalom races during the winter carnival season, including the Eastern title at the Middlebury Carnival. Both Lathrops were All-East first team selections.

After their first collegiate season, the Lathrops will compete at the U.S. Alpine Championships at Lake Placid and will also be at the North American Trophy Series held in British Columbia.

The Colby women's team was consistently in the top five of all Eastern competitions this season. The team finished second on a few occasions and will look for a victory next season.

Sophomore Nicole Wessen (Mount Washington Valley/Rockland, Mass.), senior Caroline Riss (Gould Academy/Madison, N.H.) and first-year skier Caitlin Healey (Wachussett MT/Fitchburg, Mass.) were other top skiers for the Colby women.

Colby head coach Mark Godomsky was named the EISA Coach of the Year for his work with the women and men's teams.

Sophomore Robert Saunders (Rowland Hall-St. Marks/Park City, Utah) earned second team All-America honors for taking eighth place in the giant slalom at the NCAA Championships. He was also named an All-East second team selection. Saunders remains the only Colby male skier to win a Division I race.

Sophomore Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Tilton, N.H.) and first-year skier Charlie Reed (Winter Sports School/Park City, Utah) each went to the NCAA Championships along with Saunders to form a full team. Nickerson placed a strong 13th place in the giant slalom at the NCAA meet after being in 20th place after the first run.

Despite having no Nordic skiers in the competition, the Colby men and women still combined to finish in 13th place in the country at the NCAA Championships.

Seniors Noah Siebeck-Smith (Gould Academy/North Pomfret, Vt.), Thomas Richardson (Team Gilboa/Edina, Minn.) and sophomore Tyler Rowe (Carrabassett Valley Academy/Manchester, Maine) also placed for the Colby men during the season.

Richardson, Reed, Saunders and Riss were all named to the NCAA Skiing All Academic Team. Saunders was also named to the NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team.
