The Colby College White Mules (4-5) were victorious in the first game played at Coombs Field since the renovations this summer and fall. In an eight inning affair they topped the Husson College Braves (4-11) 9-7. Husson picked up an unearned run in the first when Craig Harvey '05 (Bucksport, Maine) scored on a Mike Worcester '02 (Harrington, Maine) single. Harvey then put Husson up 3-0 in the third with a two run homerun over the right field fence. The Mules picked up two runs in the bottom of the inning on a Matt Simard '02 (Auburn, Maine) two-run single up the middle.ÊÊ Eric Roy '04 (Lisbon Falls, Maine)Ê started the Colby offense in the fourth when he smacked a double to right-center, and after advancing on a wild pitch was driven in on a sacrifice fly from Lucas Cummings '02 (South Paris, Maine). The Colby offense did the majority of their offense in the fifth inning.Ê Kevin Brunelle '03 (Augusta, Maine) started things off with a single up the middle, and then Simard reached on an error, putting men on second and third with no outs for Brandon Royce '04 (Augusta, Maine). Royce delivered with a double to left field that drove in two runs. Roy then drove in two more runs with a double to right center. Husson would make it close in the seventh when John McGlinn '02 (Presque Isle, Maine) smashed a three run shot. Lippert would add an insurance run for Colby in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homerun, his second of the season, putting the score at 8-6.Ê Kevin Presbrey '03 (Aurora, Ill.) was effective for Colby, pitching 6 innings and holding Husson to two earned runs on four hits with 2 strikeouts on his way to picking up his first win of the season.
