April 6, 2002
Brunswick, ME
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Arch-rivals Bowdoin and Colby resolved nothing on the
diamond on Saturday, splitting a doubleheader. Game one was taken by the
Polar Bears 6-0, while game two was won by the White Mules, 8-1. Bowdoin
is 8-10 on the season, while Colby stands at 6-6. The Mules, due to their victory on Friday at Waterville, Maine clinch the season series over the Polar Bears 2-1.
Game one saw Bowdoin take control with four straight doubles in a
five-run third-inning. Kevin Bougie, Andy Workman, Tom McMahon and Seth
Paradis all cracked two-baggers consecutively to give the Polar Bears a
5-0 lead. Lefty Scott Jamieson made it stand, striking out seven and
allowing only three hits for the win.
The White Mules bounced back in the second contest, riding the back of
third-baseman Matthew Simard '02 (Auburn, Maine) to victory. Simard had a two-run double in
the third inning to give Colby a 2-0 edge, and then cracked a huge
two-run homer in the fifth. Pitcher Matt Gibson '03 (Cortland, Ohio) picked up the win for
Colby by going the distance, scattering seven hits and striking out
seven.
