 Game Recap:

Lippert Walk Off Homerun Leads Colby Over Trinity 6-5
Colby vs Trinity College
April 13, 2002
Waterville, ME

Game One

Waterville, Maine- B.L. Lippert '04 (Augusta, Maine) capped a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh with a game-winning homerun to power the Colby College White Mules (7-7) past the visiting Trinity College Bantams (16-5) 6-5 at Coombs Field. The Mules offense had been limited to a lone run in the first six innings, but rallied for a huge come from behind victory. Colby scored first in the third inning on a Lippert RBI single after consecutive Kevin Brunelle '04 (Augusta, Maine) and Matt Simard '02 (Auburn, Maine) singles. Trinity was finally able to get to Kevin Presbrey '03 (Aurora, Ill.) in the fifth inning when Greg Spanos '02 (Auburn, Mass.) blasted a two-run homerun over the left-field fence. Trinity seemed to be pulling away in the top of the seventh when they scored three more runs on a Spanos RBI single and another two-run blast from Andrew Freimuth '02 (Bristol, Conn.) to right-center. Colby's rally came with one out in the last inning, starting when Lucas Cummings '02 (South Paris, Maine) and Brandon Irwin '04 (Alexandria, N.Y.) hit back-to-back singles. Brunelle then delivered with a RBI single up the middle. Simard followed suit with an RBI single up the middle of his own to put the score at 5-3 with two men on for Lippert. Lippert won the game with a towering shot to left field, as the ball landed deep into the trees in left. Kevin Tidmarsh '04 (Meriden, Conn.) pitched a complete game for Trinity, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing 6 runs on 11 hits and 6 strikeouts. Presbrey went 6 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on 9 hits and 3 strikeouts. Lippert finished 2-4 with 3 RBI, while Spanos led Trinity going 3-4 with 3 RBIšs and a homerun.
