 Game Recap:

UMAINE BASEBALL DOWNS COLBY, 20-2
Colby vs U-Maine
April 16, 2002
Orono, ME

ORONO, Maine The University of Maine baseball team pounded out 20 runs on 20 hits to cruise to a 20-2 victory over Division III Colby College, in baseball action Tuesday night at Mahaney Diamond in Orono. The win improved UMaineıs record to 20-7, and extended the Black Bearsı winning streak to nine games the longest winning streak for a UMaine team since the 1993 squad won 10 consecutive games. Colby fell to 7-9 overall with the loss.

Aaron Young (Augusta, Maine/Cony) led the Black Bears at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance with six runs batted in. Three of Youngıs RBIs came off a three-run home run to right-center field, during UMaineıs 10-run offensive outburst in the fifth inning. Young also had a two-run double to left field in the eighth inning. Alain Picard (Ste.-Foy, Quebec/St. Thomas Aquinas, Fla.) hit a round-tripper in the fourth inning and a three-run double to right-center in the fifth, finishing 2-for-3 with four RBI. Picard also extended his hitting streak to 22 games. Brett Ouellette (Keene, N.H./Keene) and Simon Williams (Portland, Maine/Portland) each knocked in three runs on 2-for-4 efforts at the plate, and Pat Tobin (Pickering, Ontario/Rend Lake Coll., Ill.) plated a pair of runs with a single down the left field line in the fifth inning.

Williams stole three bases in the game, marking the 13th time a Black Bear has accomplished the school record-tying feat, and matching the three stolen bases he had against the University of Pennsylvania back on March 15. Williams is just the second UMaine player to steal three bases in a game twice in a season (Chad White is the other, with three SB vs. Vermont and UMass in 1993), and the third to do it twice in a career (Mike Livulpi, three SB vs. Colby in 2000, and vs. N.Y. Tech this season).

For the White Mules, senior Jonathan Lord turned in a solid hitting performance with a 3-for-4 effort. Sophomore Eric Roy was the only other Colby player with a multiple-hit game, as he went 2-for-3. Lucas Cummings and Joseph Johnson had Colbyıs two RBIs.

UMaine starter Scott Robinson (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) scattered six hits and fanned five White Mules in six innings of work to pick up his second win of the season. Colby starter Kevin Presbrey gave up five runs on seven hits in three innings, and was charged with the loss.
