1/16/01 Bowdoin Men Bounce Colby in Hoops BRUNSWICK, Maine Bowdoin College senior David Baranowski scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Polar Bears to a gritty, 73-62, victory over Colby on Tuesday evening. The victory was the fourth straight for Bowdoin (9-3) while Colby (9-5) suffers its second-straight set-back. Bowdoin jumped out of the gate to start the game, leading 11-2 in the first three minutes of action. Colby, behind the play of Sam Clark, stormed back and eventually took a 27-21 lead with less than five minutes remaining in the half. The Polar Bears answered back to trim the White Mule lead to 33-31 with less than five ticks in the first frame. Greg Orlicz sprinted to half-court and heaved up a 30-foot shot that swished home to give Bowdoin a 34-33 lead at the end of the first. In the second half, the two teams stayed close. Clark and Zeb Davis each scored 21 points on the evening to pace the Colby effort and were clutch down the stretch for the White Mules. The pivotal play of the game came with 3:15 left in the game with the Polar Bears leading 52-51. After an intital Bowdoin shot, an offensve rebound -- one of the Polar Bears' 18 on the evening -- kicked back to Braden Clement, who drilled a three-pointer to boost the lead to four points and the White Mules would get no closer than two the rest of the way. Clement (11) and Orlicz (11) joined Baranowski in double-figures while Chris Ranslow added eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Baranowski shot 12-of-17 from the floor in helping Bowdoin shoot 51 percent from the floor for the game.
