Colby Men's Hoops Advance to Final Four Waterville, ME. The Middlebury College Panthers came into tonight's first round NESCAC playoff game with one thing on it's mind.....upset. The Panthers took the White Mules down to the wire but some clutch foul shooting and tenacious defense allowed Colby to get away with a hard fought 54-49 win. The win advances Colby the #2 seed in the tournament to the Final Four this weekend at Trinity College. Sam Clark was the only player on the floor to reach double figures as the senior center tossed in 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Middlebury tied the game at 44-44 with 4:48 to play on a basket by Keith Watts(8pts), the teams then traded baskets to tie the score again at 46-46. Middlebury took it's first lead of the night as Chris King stole the ball and was intentionally fouled driving to the hoop, after making 1-2 from the stripe and taking possesion of the ball, Colby got a big defensive stop and Sam Clark knocked down a 3 point basket from deep behind the arc to give the Mules the lead for good at 49-47. Colby sealed the win going 3-4 from the line in the final minute of the game. Jon Cormier led Middlebury with 9 points and Chris McLaughlin added 8. Colby received strong performances from Joe Gutierrez 7 points and a big steal and basket down the stretch and from David Forsyth who had 6 points and hit both ends of a 1-1 with :49 seconds left to play. The win improves Colby's record to 17-8 while Middlebury ends their season at 11-14.
