Men's Basketball
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Greetings,

Saturday, November 11, 2000 provided great athletic excitement here at Colby . The early morning rain evaporated under a clear blue sky as our football team defeated Bowdoin 34-7 to clinch a CBB crown and a share of the NESCAC title. In the early afternoon the women's basketball alumnae played our very strong women's team.

The men's teams gathered for a 4pm tip-off and the suprisingly large crowd witnessed some definate nostaliga and excitement. In the elder game, the teams were divided with units of eight.

Carl Nelson, Trainer
Ed Fraktman '53 C-Club Man of the Year

An early lead by the A group , fueled the 17 first half points of John Daileanes, essentially decided the outcome. Ever a valiant effort by the B group including a coaching change from one bench to the other (Guess Who?) couldn't close the gap. John Daileanes ended up with 25 points, Greg Becker 20 and Matt Hancock ended with 19 points.

In the Varsity-Recent match-up, the varsity was very tentative early and fell behind to the flurry of points by David Stephens early, Ken Allen at the mid-point and the Alums led 39-30 at the half.

In the second half, the varsity closed the gap at the midway point and the game was close until the last four minutes with the varsity pulling away for a 81-65 victory.

There were some great family moments as eighteen children from seven month and up explored our Alfond Center. My thanks again for all you do to make this day very special, but every day a challange and, as always, please write, call or email anytime.

Sincerely, Coach Whit
